{"id":6160,"date":"2024-12-07T20:15:00","date_gmt":"2024-12-07T19:15:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.deejayplaza.com\/en\/?p=6160"},"modified":"2024-12-14T17:31:12","modified_gmt":"2024-12-14T16:31:12","slug":"rekordbox-transfer-library-new-computer","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.deejayplaza.com\/en\/articles\/rekordbox-transfer-library-new-computer","title":{"rendered":"Transfer Rekordbox library new computer"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>A couple of years ago I switched from an old MacBook to a new Windows laptop.<br>And when I wrote this article, I switched from that Windows 10 laptop to a new Windows 11 laptop.<br>Here&#8217;s a step by step description of how I did it twice.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The method below works between Windows versions and between Windows and Mac.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 id=\"on-your-old-computer\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">On your old computer<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Check the version of Rekordbox via: HELP -> REKORDBOX UPDATE MANAGER.<br>Update Rekordbox if there is a new version available.<br>This prevents you from exporting and not being able to open the backup file on your new computer.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Make a backup of your Rekordbox Library (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.deejayplaza.com\/en\/articles\/rekordbox-backup\" data-type=\"attachment\" data-id=\"5938\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">see backup tutorial<\/a> for detailed info). <br>Make sure to <strong>NOT <\/strong>include the music (only the library itself), because that takes forever.<br>Some versions have a bug which doesn&#8217;t even include the music in the backup, even when you checked the option.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Copy the backup file to external storage (USB drive, hard disk etc).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Copy your music to external storage.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 id=\"on-your-new-computer\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">On your new computer<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/rekordbox.com\/en\/download\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Download Rekordbox<\/a> the same version of Rekordbox on your new computer as you had on your old computer, or update via  HELP -> REKORDBOX UPDATE MANAGER.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Install Rekordbox (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.deejayplaza.com\/en\/articles\/install-rekordbox-windows\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">install tutorial Windows<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.deejayplaza.com\/en\/articles\/install-rekordbox-mac-os\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">install tutorial Mac<\/a>).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Start Rekordbox.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Restore the backup file from your external storage (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.deejayplaza.com\/en\/articles\/rekordbox-backup\" data-type=\"attachment\" data-id=\"5938\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">see backup tutorial<\/a> for detailed info).<br>When you get a scary looking message like this:<br><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.deejayplaza.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/12\/rekordbox-library-restore-warning.webp\" alt=\"\"><br>(translated to English: &#8220;This backup is possibly made with a different computer.
