What is Rekordbox?<\/h2>\n\n\n<p>Rekordbox is software for DJs.<br>The software can do mainly 2 things:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Organize and analyze your music library <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Export your library to a USB drive to use on AlphaTheta hardware.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Perform a DJ gig. You don&#8217;t need a DJ controller for this, but it makes your life a lot easier.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p>This guide applies to both the free and payed Rekordbox license.<br>But I&#8217;m using the free license for this beginner tutorial.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In this guide I will give you instructions for each step.<br>I will link detailed guides for each step in the case you struggle with some of the instructions.<\/p>\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"1-installation\">1. organize your library and export to USB<br><strong>Performance mode<\/strong> &#8211; perform your DJ gig<br><strong>Lighting mode<\/strong> &#8211; program and control lights for your DJ gig &#8211; Patiently wait until all the tracks are imported and analyzed, Rekordbox is slow.<br>On the bottom of the screen it says: &#8220;analyzing X tracks&#8221;.<br>The tracks that are already analyzed have album art and a waveform.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>More details you can find in my <a href=\"https:\/\/www.deejayplaza.com\/en\/articles\/import-analyze-music-rekordbox\">Import and Analyze tutorial<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"4-player\">4. It stops when you release the CUE button (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.deejayplaza.com\/en\/articles\/what-is-cue-button\">explanation of cue button<\/a>)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Play button<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Title of track<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Artist of track<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Remaining time of track<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Elapsed time of track<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Key of track in Camelot notation<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>BPM of track (=tempo)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Play head (tells you what part of track you currently hear)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>First beat of a bar (line with red triangle on top and bottom)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Quantize<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"quantize\">Quantize<\/h3>\n\n\n<p>Rekordbox helps you to stay on beat with the quantize function.<br>When enabled it &#8220;rounds up&#8221; or &#8220;rounds down&#8221; to the nearest beat.<br>This applies to cue points, memory cues, hot cues, loops etc.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Especially beginner DJ generally have less feeling for rhythm, the quantize will help you.<\/p>\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"5-playlists\">5. Export music<\/h2>\n\n\n<p>You are able to use the tracks and playlists in the Performance mode to perform a DJ gig.<br>But you are also able to export tracks an playlist to a USB drive, which you can use on AlphaTheta CDJ and XDJ hardware.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>To export tracks to a USB drive:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>1. Click on your USB drive. Mine is called &#8220;H:ESD-USB&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"7-cue-points-and-hot-cues\">7.
