scroll-wheel.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 id=\"slow-but-responsive\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Slow but responsive<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>It sounds like a contradiction.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Some parts of the software are blazingly fast and responsive.<br>For example: displaying 700 tracks in a playlist, and analyzing tracks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But other parts are very very slow.<br>1. The options screen for example (I&#8217;ll talk about that later).<br>2. But also creating a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.deejayplaza.com\/en\/dj-terminology-glossary#smart-playlists\">smart list<\/a> takes seconds (!!) to respond.<br>3. Selecting criteria for the smart list takes seconds (!!) to respond.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I also had the software crash on me when setting a criterium for a smart list.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 \/>\n\t\t\t<\/svg>\n\t\t<\/button><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>However, editing the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.deejayplaza.com\/en\/dj-terminology-glossary#beatgrid\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">beatgrid <\/a>is a bit clunky and weird.<br>Changing the first beat of a bar, changes the tempo of the track.<br>You can&#8217;t change it back, unless you have played some of the music.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Also shifting the beatgrid one bar, it doesn&#8217;t work.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Luckily there is a metronome to help out with fixing the grid (which <a href=\"https:\/\/www.deejayplaza.com\/en\/articles\/serato-review\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Serato <\/a>misses).<br>I haven&#8217;t found tracks the were not correctly can take a second or 5.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Nevertheless, the options screen is also nice and clean.<br>Also  here: it isn&#8217;t overcrowded with useless features like in many DJ software (I&#8217;m thinking of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.deejayplaza.com\/en\/articles\/traktor-review\">Traktor <\/a>and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.deejayplaza.com\/en\/articles\/rekordbox-review\">Rekordbox<\/a>).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"compatibility\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Compatibility<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<h3 id=\"hardware-compatibility\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Hardware compatibility<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>For software that has this big of a potential, I am a bit disappointed in the hardware support.<br>There are only a handful of players and standalone controllers supported from Denon and Numark, according to their <a href=\"https:\/\/enginedj.com\/hardware\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">website<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But Engine DJ supports Soundswitch.<br>(Soundswitch allows you to control <a href=\"https:\/\/www.deejayplaza.com\/en\/dj-terminology-glossary#dmx-protocol\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">DMX <\/a>lights).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 id=\"software-compatibility\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Software compatibility<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The funny thing is, while the hardware compatibility lacks, the software compatibility is quite extensive.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>There is a complete integration with Dropbox.<br>But you can also load libraries of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.deejayplaza.com\/en\/articles\/rekordbox-review\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Rekordbox<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.deejayplaza.com\/en\/articles\/serato-review\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Serato<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.deejayplaza.com\/en\/articles\/traktor-review\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Traktor <\/a>and the long-forgotten iTunes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"streaming\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Streaming<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Here is where it gets confusing!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Engine DJ&#8217;s website <a href=\"https:\/\/enginedj.com\/streaming\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">boasts <\/a>about streaming support.<br>This is support for Engine OS (so the hardware), not the Engine DJ software for your computer!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The DJ players and standalone controllers themselves support, Amazon Music, Beatport, Beatsource and Tidal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"pricing-is-engine-dj-free\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Pricing: is Engine DJ free?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Engine DJ Desktop is 100% free, but the &#8220;free&#8221; version isn&#8217;t really usable like I explained earlier in this review.<br>Engine DJ Desktop is not DJ performance software, it is library management and preparation software.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>To make use of computer.<br>These tests were done on a freshly rebooted Intel Core i9-X 10 gen processor with 64GB RAM memory, NVidia RTX 3080 and a PCIe Gen 3 NVME SSD:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-table 26s*<\/td><\/tr><\/tbody><\/table><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>* 1000 songs were analyzed (10x AIFF files, 4x WAV files, 986 mp3 files)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Of all DJ software I tested (this includes: Serato, Rekordbox, Virtual DJ and Traktor) Engine DJ uses the least amount of memory.<br>Traktor and Virtual DJ beat Engine DJ by a thin margin when it comes to CPU usage (1% vs 2%)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Engine DJ class=\"wp-block-heading\">Conclusion<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Engine DJ is the new kid on the block, and you can clearly see that.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The software shows an incredible amount of potential.<br>But there are some kinks to iron out here and there.<br>The crashes, the options screen and the smart lists for example.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Nevertheless, I really like the software.<br>A big thumbs up for the user interface, the usability aspect and responsiveness (when it DOES respond).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I would like to see the software develop to full fledged DJ software to perform DJ
